I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. For the longest time, that was my passion; I wanted to help people get well. While at UCLA, I studied molecular biology like any other pre-med student. I worked in a research lab and volunteered in a hospital. But I hated it; I hated being surrounded by sick people. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wanted to help sick people get well. But problem was, I never got to see them get well. I see patients being prescribed medications and undergoing surgery. When they’re stable enough, they get sent home to recover. I rarely saw them again, and if I did it was probably because they were back because they were sick again or their condition had worsen. It wasn’t the type of environment I wanted to work in all day.
After I graduated, I ended up working in a biotech company in San Diego. It was there that I started developing minor low back pain. Everyone around me kept telling me it was normal and to basically deal with it. But then I met a chiropractor and he made me realize that back pain was common, but it wasn’t normal. Pain is your body’s check engine light turning on telling you that there’s a problem and it needs to be fixed. And just like your car, if you don’t get it fixed soon, it’s only going to get worse. So I started care and got amazing results! I couldn’t believe how wonderful I felt and how much more aware I was of my body. It was then that I decided to be a chiropractor. I love that I could work with a spectrum of patients, from the ones that are severely symptomatic and watch them get better to the ones on maintenance and wellness care.
